March 26, 2024

Ten Portugues wine makers from Tejo Region presented their best wines at the Entrepôts Dominion located on Saint-Ambroise street n Montreal. It was a wine tasting event that offered an assortment of about 120 wines, all different, each created with a very specific and special process.

Tejo is a Portuguese wine region that covers the same area as the country’s Ribatejo Province. It takes its name from the river Tejo (Tagus). The entire region is entitled to use the Vinho Regional designationTejo VR.

Located in the very heart of Portugal, between The Lisboon and Alentejo VRs, the region is dominated by the influence of the Tagus river that moderates the region's climate, making it more temperate than other areas of Portugal. The rejion is experiencing a wine producing renaissance that affect all the stages of wine production from vine to bottles.

Vineyards are planted on the fertile alluvial plains along the river and are capable to produce great yields, all thanks to the landscape shape, climate, economy and the communities that live their.

Tejo is now producing over 30 million liters of certified wine per year and is the 5th largest of Portugal 14 wine regions. The wine community in Tejo comprises more than 80 wineries and 4 co-operatives. Many wineries have been family-owned by generations.

A special Vitiivinicola wine-makers Commission oversees the Tejo wines certification and laboratory testing, to assure all wines confirm to quality standards and correct labeling. There are also held regular workshops for wine markers to ensure the most current trends in market preferences  as well as the global wine trends.

The food that accompanied this wine tasting even was also generous.
