79th Edition

MOVING FORWARD TO A NEW BEGINNING!

Friday, January 19 - Sunday, January 28, 2024

The long awaited Montreal International Auto Show (MIAS) returns to its pre-pandemic proportions. Presented by iA Financial Group, it is back in full force. This  edition of MIAS promises a revitalized experience, spanning three levels of the Palais des congrès de Montréal and featuring the return of major brands absent the previous year, such as Ford, Lincoln, Genesis, Infiniti, Mitsubishi, Volkswagen, and McLaren. This gathering reaffirms the brands' enthusiasm for this automotive grand event, bringing new vitality to this special event.

Defining  the new era for the Montreal International Auto Show.

The 2024 edition presents itself as a first step towards a decisive turning point. As announced in late July 2023, at the launch of strategic reflections on the future of MIAS (SIAM in French), the organizers have initiated significant changes for the 2024 edition. These adjustments aim to go beyond the mere presentation of new models. Instead, it is integrating the event into a broader context of mobility. This transition stems from notable developments in the automotive industry, the events landscape, and the constantly evolving needs of automotive enthusiasts. Armed with data collected during the market study conducted at the end of the summer, which led to the firm intention of providing a maximum experience to visitors, MIAS diversified it presentation venues and returned to the three levels of the Palais des congrès to offer an enriched customer experience.

Luis Pereira, the executive director of the event, emphasizes:

"We seek to transcend the traditional image of the Montreal Auto Show by creating a space that supports environmentally friendly initiatives while showcasing the various ways of getting around today. Our ambition is to offer visitors an enriching and comprehensive experience, meeting the expectations of car enthusiasts by presenting all aspects that could interest them. In addition to an expanded range of manufacturers, MIAS now integrates multiple spaces dedicated to leisure and motorized sports."

Celebrating 125 years of automobiles in Montréal

Friday, January 19 - Sunday, January 28, 2024

1899-2024 - 125 years of automobiles in Montréal

GHOST CAR

While the 2024 Montréal International Auto Show will feature a wide range of electric vehicles, actually, the first horseless carriage in Montréal was steam-powered! It was on November 21, 1899 that the 25th mayor of Montreal Raymond Préfontaine took a ride in the streets of Montreal in a car - the Waltham brand - owned by the real estate investor Ucal-Henri Dandurand (who developed the Rosemont neighborhood and named it after his mother.) The car was nicknamed the "ghost car" because of its two carbide headlights. It was delivered with an actual mechanic, providing its owner with a two-month training course to learn how to share the road with horses and carriages.

The car also had four wheels, a two-person seat and six water tanks, enabling it to travel a total distance of approximately 150 kilometers. It was capable of speeds in excess of 40 km/h, but was never driven faster than 7 km/h. It had a very light two-cylinder double acting steam engine that wighted 50 lb and reached 3hp, The complete vehicle only weighed 600 lb including the wire wheels Its owner used the car for only three months before it broke down, and the carmaker eventually bought it back from him
