Awards Ceremony

Montreal's Salon des Métiers d’art 2016 (Montrreal's Crafts Fair - SMAM) presented its Excellence in Crafts Awards on Tuesday, December 13th, as part of its 61st edition. The salon is held at Place Bonaventure until December 18th at Place Bonaventure (December 8-18, 2916).
The Award ceremony was Hosted by Annie-Soleil Proteau, spokesperson for the SMAM. It honoured the artisans of Quebec who distinguished themselves in their disciplines by their admirable work and talent. Several prizes have been awarded:
Jean-Marie-Gauvreau Prize
$10,000
Prize created in honor Jean-Marie-Gauvreau, the founder of the Montréal Crafts Fair. It is Gauvreau Prize, one of the highest distinctions in crafts in Quebec, awarded to a craftsman over 10 years of age.
Winner: Montreal's ceramist Laurent Craste for his collection "Sévices".
$2,500 bursary offered by the Caisse Desjardins de la culture, plus
$500 discount on the stand rental price at the next edition of the sSalon.
Winner: Nicolas Leblanc (Nico-nico, booth 111), a native of Montérégie, to highlight the audacity and inventiveness of his wooden toys.
Institute of Crafts Award
$1,000
Encourages a craftsman graduated in one of the craft programs of the Cégep du Vieux Montréal
Winner: Ceramist Marie-Hélène Robillard (loft 349.9) from the Lanaudière region.
For the audacity and delicacy of her production.
Assurart, Jean-Cartier Award
$1000 scholarship and a $500 reduction for attendance at the next Salon
Awarded to an artisan with less than 5 years of professional experience.
Winner: Benoît Pépin, cabinetmaker (stand 348), of the Capitale-Nationale region. For the originality of his products.
Visual Presentation Awards
Two awards were given which include a $500 bursaries and a $500 discount on the rental price of a stand at the next edition of the Salon.
Winners:
For Visual Presentation: Designers Nancy Bergeron (Machin-Machine) and Luc Courchesne (Boule), at booth 159.
For Visual presentation loft: Jeweler Émilie Dell'Aniello (loft 801.2).
Winner: textile printing designer Monique Beauregard, established in Montérégie,
For her contribution to the reputation of Canadian textile throughout the world.
The Salon des métiers d'art of Montreal paysher a tribute this year with an exhibition entitled "Monique Beauregard or the transmission of knowledge through textiles".
Mention of Excellence Award
Winners:
Céline Fafard, ceramist at booth 213.
Geneviève Lugaz, toymaker, for Des enfantillages, at booth 270.
Every winner received a bouquet of white flowers.
